WHAT:
Beverly Regional Airport invites community members to a flyover of a vintage aircraft during “Beverly Never Forgets: The 20th Anniversary of September 11,” on Saturday, Sept. 11, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. That event will be held at the local Federal Emergency Management Agency headquarters at 43LP Henderson Road, adjacent to the airport.
Beverly is home to Massachusetts Task Force 1 Urban Search and Rescue, one of 28 volunteer first-responder teams FEMA operates across the nation. Massachusetts Task Force 1 was the first FEMA team to arrive at Ground Zero. The FEMA event will include speakers and a tour of the FEMA site, which features a museum and 9/11 Memorial highlighted by a 21-foot-long piece of steel from the World Trade Center’s North Tower.
Beverly Regional Airport is partnering with FEMA during this event. At 11:45 a.m., a vintage U.S. Navy Beechcraft T-34 Mentor military training plane will fly over the airport and FEMA headquarters. The flyover will serve to remember those who lost their lives during the attacks, and those whose lives were affected by that day.
“We encourage the community to come out and reflect on the events of Sept. 11, observe the flyover, and learn more about the role FEMA’s first responders played,” Beverly Regional Airport Director Gloria Bouillon said. “We especially thank the pilot who is donating their time and airplane, so that we may all pay our respects during the event.”
