MAYNARD — Fire Chief Anthony Stowers reports that the Maynard Fire Department responded to two simultaneous gas leaks this morning.

At approximately 9 a.m., the Maynard Fire Department was notified of a gas-like smell in the area of Thompson Street behind Building 5 of Mill and Main.

The department responded to the scene and notified Eversource of an odor present. Eversource representatives determined that there was gas leaking from a regulator and took measures to isolate and repair it.

While responding to this incident, the department was called to respond to another report of a gas-like smell on Chandler Street. The department confirmed an odor and notified Eversource.  Eversource identified a small gas leak coming from a regulator and took measures to isolate and repair it.

Based on gas readings, utility and public safety officials do not believe that either incident posed an imminent threat to residents.

As always the Maynard Fire Department reminds residents to call 911 to report any gas emergency or odor of gas.
