EASTON — Chief Justin Alexander reports that the Easton Fire Department extinguished a house fire on Mill Street today.
Easton Fire was dispatched to 35 Mill St. at approximately 1:35 a.m. after the homeowner reported a fire in the basement of the house.
Easton Engine 11 responded to the scene. Upon arrival, crews found heavy smoke on the first floor of the house.
The fire was brought under control within 10 minutes of crews’ arrival on scene. There were two people present at the time of the fire, but no injuries were reported.
Fire damage was confined to the basement area. The first and second floors of the home sustained smoke damage.
Mutual aid was provided on scene by the Sharon Fire Department and Stoughton Fire Department. Station coverage was provided by the West Bridgewater Fire Department. The Southeastern Massachusetts Emergency Communications Center assisted in the coordinated efforts.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Easton Fire Department and Easton Police Department; however a preliminary investigation indicates that the fire may have been caused by a faulty dehumidifier.
