EASTON — Fire Chief Justin Alexander and Police Chief Gary Sullivan announce that the departments will hold a 9/11 remembrance ceremony next month to mark 20 years since the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
WHEN:
Saturday, Sept. 11 at 8:30 a.m.
WHERE:
Easton Fire Station 1, 48 Lothrop St., North Easton
WHAT:
“While it is hard to believe that 20 years has passed since the 9/11 terrorist attacks, the memory of that day and those who lost their lives has never faded and will not fade,” Chief Alexander said. “As first responders, a day like 9/11 is particularly poignant and holds a special place in our hearts as we honor the sacrifice that so many of our brothers and sisters made.”
The event will include the lowering of the American flag to half-mast, a moment of silence, a bell ringing and a reading of the Firefighter’s Prayer. Easton Fire Captain Evan Malone will be leading the 20th year remembrance ceremony.
Community members are invited to attend the outdoor ceremony.
The ceremony will be live-streamed once again this year. Community members will be able to watch live through Easton Community Access Television (ECAT): eastoncat.org/watch.
“We are honored to continue the tradition of remembering and carrying on the legacy of the victims of 9/11,” Chief Sullivan said. “This day never gets easier, no matter how much time has passed. But it is crucial that we continue on this tradition to honor the memories and lives of those who, in service to others, made the ultimate sacrifice. We honor those first responders, all others who lost their lives that day, and those who continue to deal with lasting effects even two decades later. They will never be forgotten.”
