CHELMSFORD — Chief James M. Spinney reports that the Chelmsford Police Department responded to a train crash involving a teen on Wednesday.
At approximately 12:10 p.m., Chelmsford Police and Fire were dispatched to the area of Drexel Drive near the border of Westford and Chelmsford for reports of a person struck by a train.
Upon arrival, police found that a 17-year-old Chelmsford male had suffered serious injuries after being struck by a train. The initial investigation indicates that the teen was walking on the tracks and was unaware of the approaching train at the time of the crash.
After being treated on-scene by paramedics, the teen was transported by medical helicopter to a Boston hospital.
The incident is under investigation by the Chelmsford Police Department. The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Railroad Administration were notified of the incident as well.
