HATHORNE – Superintendent Heidi Riccio is pleased to share that Essex Tech will host the second round of the inaugural Wicked Bites and Chefs of the North Shore Pro Chef Competition.

The inaugural Wicked Bites and Chefs of the North Shore Pro Chef Competition seeks to elevate the North Shore’s culinary industry through fun and friendly competition.
Two hundred fifty-one chefs were nominated by the public for Round One Competition. Thirty-four chefs competed. Chefs must be at least 18, and work in a commercial or institutional kitchen in one of 51 communities ranging from the North End of Boston through the North Shore and Merrimack Valley.
Chefs were asked to prepare an appetizer, an entrée, and a dessert, in their own kitchens in the first round. Chefs were required to use specified ingredients in each dish. The entries were judged by an anonymous panel based on creativity in the use of those mandatory ingredients, the appeal of their description, ease of recipe, quality of photo and food styling, and overall appeal.
Eleven chefs were selected to compete in the second round.

The 11 finalists will compete at Essex Tech in challenges utilizing a massive pantry provided by “The Friends of the Chefs.” The chefs’ work will be judged in-person by a panel of Essex Tech staff members, based on appeal of the items’ description, visual appeal, taste and aroma. Multiple prizes will be awarded throughout the day.
Based on judges’ scoring, one Grand Winner and two Final Table recognitions will be announced.
