“We are pleased to finally be welcoming community members into our newest fire station this weekend,” Chief Bradley said. “After the long wait, we encourage all residents to take a tour of our newest facility that will serve the people of North Plymouth.”
The Plymouth Fire Department officially began working out of the new North Plymouth Fire Station #7 on July 13, 2020 following a ceremony commemorating its opening. As part of the opening ceremony, firefighters made a ceremonial procession from the old North Plymouth station at 0 Spooner St. to the new station, located approximately 1,000 feet away at 15 Hedge Road. The new three-bay station replaces the oldest station in town, which was built in 1906. While the previous North Plymouth Station that was originally built over 100 years ago served the community well, this new state-of-the-art Hedge Road facility focuses on safety and preventative care of the firefighter.
The efficient design delivers 24/7 accommodations for the full-time staff and provides for effective environmental separations via negative air pressure systems to protect the staff from the elements associated with firefighting. The facility also boasts a full decontamination room for firefighters to utilize after returning from an incident.
The Town of Plymouth purchased the 2.25-acre Hedge Road site in 2017, and Town Meeting voters approved spending $7.5 million to build the new station.
The project was successfully completed by Saccoccio & Associates Architects of Cranston, Rhode Island, P&P General Contractors of Charlton, and led by Owner’s Project Manager, Pomroy Associates of East Bridgewater. The team delivered the project to the Town of Plymouth on schedule and below the original budget.
