BEDFORD – Town Manager Sarah Stanton, Chief Robert Bongiorno and the Bedford Police Department are pleased to announce the promotion of Robert Abajian to the rank of sergeant.
Sgt. Abajian was appointed by Town Manager Stanton, with his promotion going into effect on Saturday, June 20. A swearing-in ceremony was held on Tuesday, July 22 at the Bedford Police Department, and he was sworn in by Town Clerk Bridget Rodrigue.
Sgt. Abajian has served with the Bedford Police Department for 15 years, beginning his career in 2006.
During his time with the department, he served as a patrolman and a field training officer. He served as a union representative for 12 years.
“Sgt. Abajian is a proven leader and motivator, and he is highly respected by his peers, which makes him fit to assume the role of sergeant,” said Chief Bongiorno. “I would like to congratulate him on his promotion. It is very well deserved.”
Sgt. Abajian previously served four years in the U.S. Marine Corps as an active-duty sergeant.
He also holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Western New England University.
