ANDOVER — Chief Michael Mansfield and Andover Fire Rescue regretfully announce the passing of retired Deputy Chief Thomas Andrew on Sunday, July 4. He was 83.
Deputy Chief Andrew served the Andover community for nearly 30 years. He began his career with Andover Fire Rescue in 1963 as a firefighter. He was promoted to lieutenant in 1966 and to deputy chief in 1978. He served as deputy chief until his retirement in 1992.
Deputy Chief Andrew graduated from Andover High School (formerly Punchard High School) and also attended the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
“Deputy Chief Andrew served with commitment and dedication to our community for three decades. His loss will be felt by many here in Andover,” said Chief Mansfield. “On behalf of the entire department, I send my deepest condolences to his loved ones during this difficult time.”
Additionally, Deputy Chief Andrew was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed skiing, hiking and canoeing in his free time.
He was also a member of Sacred Hearts Church of Bradford and Cedardale Athletic Club of Ward Hill.
Funeral services for Deputy Chief Andrew will be held privately.
