NEW LONDON, N.H. — Superintendent Winfried Feneberg is pleased to announce that Steven Shepherd has been selected to serve as the district’s new director of elementary curriculum and assistant principal at Kearsarge Regional Elementary School (KRES) in New London.
With a 22-year career as a school professional, Assistant Principal Shepherd has years of experience as both an educator and administrator. For the past six years, he has served as a fourth-grade teacher at KRES New London, during which time he oversaw numerous initiatives including the fourth-grade budget and purchase orders and served as the lead teacher for the fourth grade. He served on various committees including the KRSD Reopening Committee, Technology Committee, Reading Foundations Curriculum Committee and Curriculum Committee/Camp. From 2012-2015, he also worked as a fifth-grade teacher at Kearsarge’s Simonds Elementary School in Warner.
“Steve has a wealth of knowledge as an educator and administrator, which will be a tremendous asset as he steps into this new role. Coupled with his knowledge of our district, he’s uniquely positioned to hit the ground running,” Superintendent Feneberg said. “We’re pleased to have him join our administrative team, and are looking forward to his insight and expertise this school year.”
Assistant Principal Shepherd began his new role on Thursday, July 1.
“As the assistant principal at Kearsarge Regional Elementary School at New London, I am looking forward to serving the students and staff to ensure the school’s success and continued growth,” Assistant Principal Shepherd said. “As director of elementary curriculum, I look forward to continuing and advancing the district’s work of clearly articulating a shared curriculum across all elementary schools in the district.”
He also previously served as the assistant principal at Claremont Middle School; as a remediation specialist for grades 4 through 8 at Omaha Middle School in Omaha, Arkansas; and has taught as an elementary teacher in various positions for grades 5, 6 and 8.
Assistant Principal Shepherd holds a bachelor’s degree in social work and a master’s degree in education, both from the University of Tennessee. He holds a building-level administrator licensure from Arkansas State University. He is enrolled in the Granite State Leadership Academy as he pursues Southern New Hampshire University’s Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study in Educational Leadership.
