AVON — Recreation Director Jennifer Mayo and the Avon Park and Recreation Board of Commissioners are pleased to announce a successful first week of the Town’s 2021 summer program.

The program began Monday, June 28 and will run until Friday, Aug. 13. Sessions are held daily from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Avon Middle-High School.

The summer program features a variety of activities, including sports and games, arts and crafts and special visitors.

Due to the extreme heat during the early part of the week, participants this week were given extra water breaks and time in the shade. Outdoor activities included races, soccer, Wiffle ball and playground time, and students rotated indoors for basketball and other games in the gymnasium.

“After having to cancel last year’s summer program due to the pandemic, we are delighted that this year has gotten off to such a successful start,” Director Mayo said. “Campers are having a great time and it means a lot to be able to provide them with a safe environment to relax, socialize and enjoy the start to summer.”

For more information on the program, contact the Park and Recreation office at 508-588-0414 ext. 1055 or email Director Mayo at jmayo@avon-ma.gov.
