CANAAN — Superintendent Amanda Isabelle is pleased to share that a Canaan Elementary School (CES) teacher has been recognized as a nominee for the New Hampshire Teacher of the Year Award.
The award honors an exemplary Granite State educator annually and is given by the New Hampshire Department of Education.
First and second grade teacher Sarah Hill has worked for the Mascoma Valley Regional School District since 2008, first starting as a kindergarten teacher. This year, she helped design an accessible, comprehensive remote program for Canaan Elementary School first and second grade students.
Throughout the 2020-21 school year, Hill emphasized the importance of connecting students from home and at school, utilizing a synchronous, hybrid classroom. Hill was able to deliver direct instruction, class meetings, and small group instruction to students online and in person.
“The process of being nominated for NH Teacher of the Year is beyond humbling, especially when I consider those I stand beside every day,” Hill said. “I feel incredibly fortunate to be a member of what I consider to be one of the most rewarding, innovative, and essential professions in the world.”
In the 2021-22 school year, Hill will move to be a full-time second grade teacher at CES as she transitions back to the fully in-person classroom.
“Sarah’s numerous contributions to our remote program made it much more accessible and intuitive as we started this school year,” Superintendent Isabelle said. “Her commitment to her students and their successful education is exceptional and she is very deserving of this nomination.”
New Hampshire Teacher of the Year nominations took place in March and selection of the Teacher of the Year will take place at a later date. To find out more about the award, visit the NH Department of Education’s website.
