RAYMOND – Superintendent Tina McCoy is pleased to announce that Curriculum Director Michael Whaland has been named to the Board of Directors of the New Hampshire Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development.
The NHASCD board consists of 13 members representing districts across the state, from classroom teachers to administrators and superintendents. The NHASCD Board is responsible for setting the vision and policy for the organization.
As a state chapter of the national ASCD, the NHASCD coordinates and oversees numerous high-quality, professional development opportunities, influences educational policy at the state level and provides access to scholarly works through the New Hampshire Journal of Education.
Whaland has earned three degrees from Plymouth State University: A Bachelor’s degree in psychology in 2006, a Master’s degree in counselor education/school counseling and guidance services in 2008, and a doctorate in educational leadership and administration.
He came to the Raymond School District as Curriculum Director in 2017. He has worked as an elementary and middle level school counselor and assistant principal in the White Mountains Regional School District from 2008-2017, after serving as an assistant principal at the White Mountains Regional School District.
“It is an honor to join such a prestigious organization, comprised of dedicated educational leaders who are experts in their field,” Whaland said. “I look forward to collaborating and promoting positive change in the areas of teaching and learning.”
Whaland has written about topics including rural education, teacher retention and attrition. He has served as a Teaching Lecturer at Plymouth State University since 2016. He also served on the University System of New Hampshire Board of Trustees from 2014-2018 and has served on Plymouth State University’s Alumni Board of Directors since 2016. He has served on the boards of several community organizations.
“Mike has shown outstanding leadership in the Raymond School District,” Superintendent McCoy said. “His dedication has improved our curriculum development to the benefit of all Raymond students.”
