EASTON — Chief Justin Alexander and the Easton Fire Department regretfully announce the passing of former Easton Firefighter Brendan McCarthy on Sunday, June 6. He was 54.
McCarthy was hired by the Easton Fire Department in April 1995. He held various roles, including EMS education coordinator and president of Local 2790. In 2010, he went on to serve as the EMS director in Brimfield and later became chief of the Brimfield Fire Department.
His fire service career began in 1984. He spent two years as a junior firefighter in Foxborough, and later served with the department as a call firefighter, call lieutenant firefighter and advanced EMT. McCarthy then served with the Plainville Fire Department as a firefighter/paramedic from 1993 to 1995 before joining the Easton Fire Department.
McCarthy also owned and operated LifeCare ambulance service and employed many Easton Fire members during his time in business.
McCarthy was known for always acting in his patient’s best interests and was often commended on his professionalism, compassion and skill. He was said to have been the best paramedic Easton Fire has ever seen by those who worked with him.
“Brendan’s reputation speaks for itself, and it is clear that the Massachusetts EMS family has lost a passionate and dedicated member,” Chief Alexander said. “We thank Brendan for his service and send our deepest condolences to his family.”
Calling hours will be held on Saturday, June 12 from 1-4 p.m. at the Roberts and Sons Funeral Home, 30 South St., Foxborough. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Diabetes Association, 330 Congress St. #501, Boston, MA 02210 or www.diabetes.org.
