BEVERLY — Superintendent Suzanne Charochak is pleased to invite members of the community to a discussion on race and equity in schools next week.
The virtual Community Forum on Race will take place on Tuesday, May 25, beginning at 6:30 p.m. and will feature a discussion facilitated by Lauren Swayne Barthold, Program Developer at the Heathmere Center for Cultural Engagement. The discussion will focus on race and equity, identify challenges and successes and explore the steps the district is taking to address the findings of its recently completed equity audit.
The discussion will highlight the lived experiences of students and teachers in Beverly’s schools, and provide them with a platform to share their perspective on the district’s work around diversity, equity and inclusion.

Beverly Public Schools completed an Equity Audit earlier this year with the goal of identifying how completely the district is meeting its opportunity, access and equity goals, and using the results to make tangible changes and mobilize resources to meet students’ needs.
Next week’s forum is the next step in the district’s work around equity, which places a strong emphasis on amplifying the voices of stakeholders.
“This forum is a key part of a wide-ranging effort the district is making to achieve equity and address areas where improvements are needed while building upon its strengths,” said André Morgan, Director of Opportunity, Access and Equity. “Students and teachers have an invaluable perspective on the issue of equity in our schools and they are the ones ultimately guiding this work by sharing their experiences.”
