SEEKONK — Superintendent Rich Drolet is pleased to announce that Jennifer McKay has been chosen to be the next principal of the George R. Martin Elementary School.
McKay will formally begin her new role as principal on July 1.
“We are looking forward to welcoming Jen to Seekonk and the Martin Elementary School community,” Superintendent Drolet said. “Jen brings with her a wealth of experience that will not only benefit our students but our community as a whole. I’d like to thank our search committee for their thorough job in selecting highly qualified candidates to be considered for this role.”
A search committee, inclusive of Martin Elementary School staff, considered approximately 20 applicants for the position of principal. The committee interviewed eight candidates before forwarding the four selected finalists to Superintendent Drolet. Dr. Drolet then interviewed each of the four finalists before narrowing the selection down to two candidates, who then went on to have a third interview with district administrators.
McKay has worked for the past 17 years at the William S. Greene Elementary School in Fall River. She began her work in Fall River as a fifth-grade teacher and remained in that position for ten years until she shifted to the role of a literacy coach.
McKay has also worked as an administrator in the school for the past five years, serving as vice principal and most recently serving as interim principal.
McKay received a bachelor’s degree in education from Bridgewater State University. She also holds a Master of Arts in Elementary Education from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, and a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies in School Administration from the American International College.
