WHITMAN — Superintendent Jeffrey Szymaniak and Whitman-Hanson Regional High School art instructor Christina Maher are pleased to share the latest featured artist in the school’s ongoing Virtual Senior Art Showcase Series.
As part of the Showcase Series, the WHRHS art department and the school’s Art in Action program will be featuring a rotating lineup of senior student artists on an individual basis in the coming weeks. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the school is encouraging community members to view students’ artwork virtually.
For the next two weeks, Art in Action and the Whitman-Hanson Art Department will be featuring the work of Whitman-Hanson Regional High School senior Lucas Mitton. The work will be displayed through May 28.
Mitton’s artwork will be on display in the three display cases along the WHRHS art hallway. To view a complete gallery of Mitton’s work online, click here.
After graduation, Mitton plans to attend Massachusetts College of Art & Design and attain a degree in art. He is interested in digital arts, illustration, and fashion design.
“Creating art has also changed my perspective on a lot in life and helped me become less pessimistic,” said Mitton. “As artists, we are able to replicate things the way we want to and paying attention to the beautiful little things in life through art and mimicry is a great exercise in lightening your mood.”
Mitton encourages all students to create art as a way to express themselves and have fun.
Other students who have been featured as part of this year’s Showcase Series include Lauren Phelps, Sammy Higgins, Erin Tilley, Julie Buckley and Abigail DeLory. Additional students will be announced and featured by the district in the coming weeks.
