WHITMAN — Chief Timothy Grenno is pleased to report that members of the Whitman Fire Department helped deliver a baby boy at a resident’s home early Wednesday morning.
Firefighters will be available to speak to the media Friday morning about the delivery.

Whitman Firefighter/Paramedics Steven F. Foster, Jerry Thompson, Nicholas A. Grasso, Scott F. Figgins and Christopher Donahue.
WHAT:
At approximately 4 a.m. Wednesday, May 5, Whitman Fire received a 911 call for a woman in labor at her residence on East Avenue. Upon arrival, firefighters found a woman in active labor.
Firefighters Steven Foster, Jerry Thompson, Nicholas Grasso, Scott Figgins and Christopher Donahue arrived on scene and immediately set up a sterile environment. Firefighters assisted in the delivery of the baby moments later. The healthy baby and mother were then transported by Whitman Ambulance to South Shore Hospital in Weymouth.
Nathan McCarthy was born to mother Erica Rodriguez and father Jason McCarthy.
“While it’s not something that happens very often, delivering a baby is one of the things we train for I commend each of the firefighters involved for their quick and professional work,” Chief Grenno said. “We’re very happy that thanks in part to their actions the baby was delivered safely and that both he and the mother are doing just fine.”
