CANTON — Superintendent Jill Rossetti and Vocational Director Michelle Sylvia are pleased to announce that Blue Hills Regional Cosmetology student Christopher Alcimbert received the Massachusetts Vocational Association’s Non-Traditional Student Award.
Alcimbert was presented with the Massachusetts Vocational Association’s Non-Traditional Student Award today, May 6, at Blue Hills Regional Technical School by MVA Awards Chairperson Don Erickson.
“It’s a pleasure of ours to see Chris receive the recognition he deserves for his continuous commitment to academics and his craft,” Director Sylvia said. “Chris is highly regarded by teachers and his fellow peers alike as he is a well-rounded role model. I look forward to the bright future he has ahead of him.”
The MVA’s Non-Traditional Student Award is given to a student who displays a personal commitment to career and technical education (CTE) in a field that is considered “non-traditional” for their gender.
Alcimbert, who is a senior cosmetology student from Randolph at Blue Hills Regional, was nominated by his teacher Janice Lavoie and the Blue Hills Regional administrative team for the award.
As the recipient of the award, Alcimbert will be recognized at Blue Hills Regional’s Senior Awards Night on Thursday, May 20 beginning at 6 p.m. Alcimbert will also receive a $500 scholarship as part of the Non-Traditional Student Award.
“My choice for cosmetology was due to my interest in the cosmetics field,” Alcimbert said. “The environment that is provided to me was part of what shaped me to be so determined for my future. My time and experience at Blue Hills Regional Technical School motivated me for the future and helped to maintain motivation for my future in becoming a dermatologist.”
Academically, Alcimbert has consistently maintained Honor Roll status throughout his time at Blue Hills Regional. He is a certified esthetician and OSHA certified, and has received his Cosmetology license.
Outside of the classroom, Alcimbert is involved in several extra-curricular activities and holds leadership positions in multiple organizations. He currently serves as SkillsUSA’s State Vice President in which he represents over 35,000 members of local CTE schools, a Gay/Straight Alliance member, a student council member and Multicultural Club ambassador. He has also been a cheerleader and member of the Track and Field team.
When not participating in school-related activities, Alcimbert works at three part-time jobs and is a lead member of the Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership organization.
Alcimbert’s goal is to become a Board Certified Dermatologist in the future. He has been accepted into Howard University, Hampton University and Morehouse College. He will be attending Morehouse College in the fall, and will study biology with a minor in biomedical engineering.
“Since his freshmen year at Blue Hills, Chris has grown exponentially, not only academically but professionally and personally as well,” Superintendent Rossetti said. “He’s such a great student with a positive outlook on life. He will surely be missed upon his graduation, but we wish him the best in his future endeavors.”
