GEORGETOWN — Chief Fred Mitchell is pleased to announce that the Georgetown Fire Department will begin staffing its station 24 hours a day starting next month.
Beginning May 1, the Georgetown Fire Department will have two firefighter/EMTs on duty at the fire station at all times, which is an enhancement over its current staffing model.
Previously, the station was staffed 15 hours per day, and relied upon firefighters responding from their homes during off-hours. Now, at least two members will be on duty at all times. The change is being made at no cost to the town through adjustments to the department’s shift schedule.
“This is an important step for the department and will pay tremendous dividends in terms of an increased level of service and improved response times,” Chief Mitchell said.
