“I’m pleased to share that the Town of Middleborough is seeking highly-qualified individuals to apply for our Director of Public Health/Health Officer position,” Town Manager Nunes said. “We encourage anyone who has a passion for public health and believes they fit this description to apply for this role.”
The Director of Public Health/Health Officer will serve as the department head for the Board of Health. They will provide professional assistance to the Board of Selectmen and Board of Health in regulation and policy development.
The Director of Public Health/Health Officer will also be responsible for the Health Department’s oversight and operations, receipts, reporting and budgets for the public health nurse section, sanitarian section and animal control.
The responsibilities and duties of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Application review for construction of establishments licensed by the Board of Health, including but not limited to COVID-19 issues, rest homes, daycare centers, food service establishments, motels and hotels, public and semi-public swimming pools, animal facilities, all aspects of Title 5 as required by state and local regulations relative to tobacco and synthetic drugs, tanning, drinking water, nuisance and housing complaints and environmental protection
- Public education outreach, emergency preparedness planning and coordination, and grant writing
- Any other duties to protect the public and environmental health as needed and required by state and local rules, regulations, laws and bylaws
Applicants should note that they are expected to be available for emergency response and callouts.
A master’s degree in a health-related field, with a minimum of three years experience in a supervisory capacity and a certification as a health officer is preferred for this position. Additionally, applicants must be certified as a Registered Sanitarian, Soil Evaluator, Septic Inspector, Food Service, Housing and Pool Operator.
