COHASSET — Chief William Quigley reports that the Cohasset Police Department responded to a 911 call for a motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian last week.
On Thursday, April 8, at approximately 7 p.m., police responded to the area of 400 Jerusalem Road. Upon arrival, officers found a 57-year-old Cohasset woman on the ground in the travel lane. She was alert and conscious but complaining of pain to her lower body.
The victim was treated on scene by members of the Cohasset Fire Department and transported to an area hospital by ambulance with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.
Officers spoke to the driver of a 2012 Toyota Camry that was involved in the crash. He was identified as a 20-year-old-male from Plymouth. Initial investigation reveled that he was within his lane when he was temporarily blinded by the setting sun. As a result of the solar glare, he allegedly did not see two females walking in the northbound lane, and subsequently clipped the female, who was in the roadway.
A witness who was walking with the victim confirmed that the walkers were side-by-side when the crash occurred. Detectives from Cohasset Police responded to the scene and took measurements and photos.
The investigation showed that speed was not a factor in the crash.
The driver of the Toyota was issued a citation for operating a vehicle with an expired inspection sticker.
“We are thankful that the injuries sustained in this crash were not life threatening, and we caution both walkers and bikers to always be alert when traveling along the side of the road,” Chief Quigley said. “Roads here in town can be very narrow and a lot of them do not have sidewalks, and we urge everyone to take extreme care to be situationally aware of how far into the travel lane they are and what obstacles drivers are facing, including approaching traffic and solar glare.”
