WHEN:
Friday, April 9 at 10:30 a.m.
WHERE:
Parkview Elementary School, 50 Spooner St.
WHAT:
Easton Public Schools will host a groundbreaking ceremony to signify the beginning of the construction phase of the Blanche A. Ames Elementary School.
The ceremony will celebrate the start of the work that will begin to bring the early elementary school to life and recognize the contributions of numerous people who have aided the district and the School Planning Committee in their efforts thus far.
“Without the contributions of so many generous individuals, this project would not have been able to get off the ground,” Committee Chair Martin said. “With this event, we want to recognize their efforts and thank them for their commitment to this project. We are looking forward to celebrating this next step as our newest school begins to take shape.”
The building will include many distinctive design elements that will honor the history of Easton, as well as engage children’s curiosity and contribute to the physical, academic and social-emotional development of early elementary students. The school itself is named after Ames, who was well known for her architectural skills, inventions, suffragette efforts, botanical research and her drawings of orchids. Features within the school will make reference to her work, including an orchid wall in the cafeteria.
With the groundbreaking taking place next week, construction on the new building is currently scheduled to finish in October 2022.
NOTE: COVID-19 safety protocols, including mask wearing and proper social distancing, will be followed during the event.
