King Philip, Norfolk, Plainville and Wrentham Schools To Host Virtual Parent Wellness Education Thriving Thursdays Series

WRENTHAM —The King Philip Regional School District, the Norfolk Public Schools, the Plainville Public Schools and the Wrentham Public School are pleased to announce the upcoming Parent Wellness Education: Thriving Thursdays series.

WRENTHAM —The King Philip Regional School District, the Norfolk Public Schools, the Plainville Public Schools and the Wrentham Public School are pleased to announce the upcoming Parent Wellness Education: Thriving Thursdays series.

The Thriving Thursday series, according to Regional Director of Wellness Dot Pearl, will consist of five virtual wellness programs to provide families with education and resources to further support their students during the pandemic and beyond.

“Introduction to Youth Suicide Prevention”

On Thursday, March 25 at 7 p.m., Sarah Gaer, a suicide prevention specialist and Senior Team Leader of MassSupport Network, will present “Introduction to Youth Suicide Prevention”. The presentation will focus on youth mental health as well as warning signs, risk factors, protective factors and how to intervene with a young person that may be struggling.

“Building Resilience in the Shadow of COVID”

On Thursday, April 1 at 6:30 p.m., The Nan Project will present “Building Resilience in the Shadow of COVID”. The training will provide parents and families with building blocks for promoting resilience in their family with tips for managing stress, creating healthy boundaries and maintaining self-care.

No pre-registration is required for this event. Those interested in attending can use this Zoom link on the day of the program.

“Understanding the Mental Health Implications of COVID for Students and Preparing for a Return to “Normalcy”

On Thursday, April 8 at 7 p.m., the Bi-County Education Collaborative will host Dr. Craig Murphy, an Educational and School Psychologist, Consultant, Speaker and Associate Professor at William James College. Dr. Murphy will present “Understanding the Mental Health Implications of COVID for Students and Preparing for a Return to ‘Normalcy'”. This presentation will focus on reviewing common themes in mental health that have emerged during the pandemic and discussing strategies to prepare students for the return to in-person learning in the near future.

“Dancing with Pandemic Anxiety: How Parents and Educators Can Support Kids”

On Thursday, April 29 at 6:30 p.m., Nancy Rappaport, MD, an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School and Attending Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist with Cambridge Public Schools, will present “Dancing with Pandemic Anxiety: How Parents and Educators Can Support Kids”. The presentation will focus on helping students persevere through the pandemic and how to navigate uncertain times.

“Taming Your Worry”

The final presentation will held be on Thursday, May 6 at 6:30 p.m. Meredith Owens, a Family Support Counselor and Family Partnership Counselor at the King Philip, Norfolk, Plainville and Wrentham Schools, will present “Training Your Worry”. The presentation will provide parents with a better understanding of their student’s mental health needs and how to properly respond to those needs. The presentation will also include a Q&A that will help to identify strategies and next steps for parents and guardians, as well as resources.
