ROCKLAND — Superintendent Alan Cron and Memorial Park Elementary School Principal Janice Sheehan are pleased to announce an exciting new addition to the StoryWalk located in the Rockland Town Forest.
The StoryWalk Project was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, Vermont. It involves posters set up on sign posts along hiking and walking trails that show pages from a book or story.
The newest addition to the Rockland Town Forest StoryWalk was developed by Rockland Public Schools Title 1 Director Kelsey Holbrook. It features the book “Happy” by Nicola Edwards. The wooden posts along the trail were built and set up with the help of Title 1 secretary Joyce Kirslis and her husband, Jim.
At the end of the book trail, there is a QR code that readers can scan with a smartphone to complete a survey for a chance to win a prize. Every few months there will be a new book featured as part of the Rockland Town Forest StoryWalk.
“The StoryWalk is a great way for families to enjoy nature, literacy and physical activity all at the same time,” Principal Sheehan said “It’s a wonderful opportunity for families to spend time together and have fun learning, and we encourage all of our students and their families to visit the Rockland State Forest and see it for themselves.”
