SOMERSET — Chief Jamison Barros is pleased to announce that the Somerset Fire Department is seeking qualified applicants to fill one full-time Firefighter/Paramedic position.
The Somerset Fire Department consists of 35 full-time sworn personnel and serves a community of approximately 18,000 people. Responsibilities will include assisting the department with its duties to provide fire protection, Advanced Life Support emergency medical services, rescue, Hazardous Materials response, fire education and other tasks.
At the time of application, candidates must be at least 18 years of age and have a valid Massachusetts driver’s license. At the time of their appointment to the department, applicants must be certified as a Massachusetts EMT/Paramedic.
Appointed members of the Somerset Fire Department must reside within 15 miles, measured from the town border of Somerset to the border limits of the city or town in which the employee resides.
Firefighting experience is preferred. Newly hired members that have completed the required recruit training program and have at least two years of full-time service as a Firefighter/Paramedic will bypass all step increases on the salary chart and start at 100% pay.
The department is looking to fill one opening and establish a candidate list for additional vacancies anticipated in the near future.
Applications are available at the Somerset Fire Department, 475 County St., Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Completed applications must be returned to the Fire Chief’s office before 1 p.m. on Friday, April 9.
Applicants who have applied to the department in the past must re-apply if they wish to be considered for the open position.
