ACTON — Chief Robert Hart reports the Acton Fire Department rescued a teenage boy and his dog after the two fell through the ice of a pond Friday evening.
Just before 5 p.m., Acton Fire was dispatched to a pond near 54 School St. for a report of a 14-year-old boy and dog that had fallen through the ice. The pond, which is approximately 100 yards behind Acton Fire Station 2, is about 6 to 8 feet deep and the two were found hanging onto a broken piece of ice. It is believed that the two were in the water for approximately five minutes.
Two crew members donning ice water rescue suits were able to rescue the boy and his dog, and bring them safely back to shore.
The patients were evaluated by EMS at the scene and safely reunited with their family.
Residents are reminded to always use caution when venturing out onto the ice. More ice safety tips can be found here.
