MIDDLEBOROUGH – Chief Lance Benjamino reports that the Middleborough Fire Department extinguished a house fire early this morning on Summer Street.
At approximately 6:15 a.m., Middleborough Fire responded to a call for a house fire at 40 Summer St. Firefighters from Engine 1 and the Shift Commander in Car 91 from the Central Fire Station and Engine 2 from South Station were the first to respond to the scene.
Middleborough Fire also struck a box alarm, which calls in the Chief, off-duty and on-call firefighters.
Upon their arrival, firefighters observed heavy smoke conditions and flames near a chimney in the main living area of the home. Firefighters began a quick and aggressive attack, knocking the fire down within minutes.
Simultaneously, off-duty and Engine 2 firefighters conducted a search of the home to ensure that no one was left inside. It was then determined that all occupants were able to safely exit the house before first responders arrived.
It took approximately one hour for the fire to be fully extinguished and the scene to be overhauled.
There were no injuries reported in the fire. Chief Benjamino estimates that the home sustained about $20,000 worth of fire and smoke damage.
“Our firefighters’ quick and aggressive response prevented the fire from spreading and kept the damage to a minimum,” Chief Benjamino said. “All responding firefighters did a great job this morning.”
The fire is not believed to be suspicious at this time, but the cause remains under investigation by the Middleborough Fire Department.
