SUDBURY – The Goodnow Library Children’s Department has a question for its younger patrons: What’s the funniest book or series in the world?
The library is catching the fever of the annual “March Madness” national college basketball tournament, and asks kids to help crown the “March Madness: Book Edition!” all-time champion. Eight books and eight series were selected for the tournament.
In the first week:
- “Don’t Let the Pigeon Stay Up Late!,” by Mo Willems bested “Click, Clack, Moo,” by Doreen Cronin
- “Elephant & Piggie,” by Mo Willems topped “Fly Guy,” by Tedd Arnold
- “The Day the Crayons Quit,” by Drew Daywalt bested “Dragons Love Tacos,” by Adam Rubin
- “The Book with No Pictures,” by B.J. Novak defeated “I Want My Hat Back,” by Jon Klassen
- “Captain Underpants” series, by Dav Pilkey outlasted “Big Nate” series, by Lincoln Peirce
- “Dog Man” series, by Dav Pilkey beat “Stick Dog” series, by Tom Watson
- “Geronimo Stilton” series, by Elisabetta Dami beat “Dork Diaries” series, by Rachel Renee Russell
- “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” series, by Jeff Kinney defeated “My Weird School” series, by Dan Gutman
The Week Two contests are:
- “Don’t Let the Pigeon Stay Up Late!” vs. “Elephant & Piggie,” both by Mo Willems
- “The Day the Crayons Quit,” by Drew Daywalt, vs. “The Book with No Pictures,” by B. J. Novak defeated “I Want My Hat Back,” by Jon Klassen

- “Geronimo Stilton” series, by Elisabetta Dami, vs. “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” series, by Jeff Kinney
Kids of all ages are welcome to vote here. (Please vote only once per week.)
A new round of voting begins each Monday at 9 a.m., and ends the following Sunday at 9 p.m. The top book and top book series face off for the Battle of the Funny Books championship from March 22-28, with the winner announced on March 29.
