BOXBOROUGH – Chief Warren B. Ryder reports that the Boxborough Police Department responded to a report of a suspicious device at a gas station on Massachusetts Avenue.
At 12:35 p.m., Boxborough Police were dispatched to the Gulf Station, 1425 Massachuestts Ave., for a report of a suspicious item near a tree alongside the station.
Boxborough Police requested the assistance of the Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). A subsequent investigation by those agencies determined that the item was not dangerous, and it was identified as a container used for geocaching.
The immediate area around the station was evacuated out of an abundance of caution, and traffic was temporarily diverted around the area. The road has since re-opened.
