MEDWAY — Superintendent Armand Pires and Principal John Murray are pleased to announce that Medway High School recently earned the College Success Award from GreatSchools.org, which recognizes the school’s work ensuring students are prepared for the college admissions process and for success in college.
According to GreatSchools.org, a national nonprofit organization, 83% of Medway High School graduates enrolled in an institution of higher learning, and 96% completed their first year of college and returned for a second year. Both percentages are higher than the state average. The school’s profile with additional data can be found here.
The College Success Award was created in 2018 to highlight public secondary schools that not only send students to college, but prepare them for the challenges that higher education can present.
Medway High School was selected as one of 92 Massachusetts schools and 2,158 schools nationwide to receive the 2020 award.
This is the second year in a row the school has received the award. Because Medway High School has earned the College Success Award for two consecutive years, the school is now a finalist for the College Success Gold Award. The Gold Award celebrates schools that have a multi-year track record of preparing students to succeed in college based on college enrollment, persistence and remediation data. Gold Award winners are expected to be announced in the fall.
“This award is an honor and we are proud to have received it for a second consecutive year,” Principal Murray said. “We work very hard to ensure that our students have the necessary resources and opportunities to succeed in college, and this has remained true in spite of this challenging year. This award recognizes the continued efforts of all of our wonderful teachers and faculty, as well as the persistence and drive of our students.”
