BRIDGEWATER — Chief Christopher D. Delmonte reports that the Bridgewater Police Department arrested two men following a confrontation over the purchase of a dog Monday afternoon.
MARCUS MANGUM, AGE 37, of PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND was charged with:
- Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Firearm)
- Unlawful Carrying of a Firearm
- Carrying a Loaded Firearm Without a License
- Possession of Ammunition Without a License
STEVEN MANGUM, AGE 41, of PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND was charged with:
- Carrying a Loaded Firearm Without a License
- Unlawful Carrying of a Firearm
- Carrying a Firearm Without a License (2nd Offense)
- Firearm Violation with Three Prior Violent Crimes
- Possession of Ammunition Without a License
On Monday, Jan. 25 at approximately 12:50 p.m., Bridgewater Police responded to the area of Campus Plaza, located at 233 Broad St., after receiving a 911 call from a woman who reported that she and a man she was with had been threatened with a firearm by two males during a confrontation over the purchase of a dog.
The victims reported that they had purchased a Micro-American Bulldog over social media from a breeder located in Providence, Rhode Island for $3,000. The victims received the dog on Saturday, Jan. 23 and realized the dog was ill, which was confirmed by a veterinarian the following day.
The victims contacted the breeder, later identified as MARCUS MANGUM, who agreed to take the dog back and refund the purchase. While meeting at Campus Plaza on Monday, a confrontation took place over the unpaid bill from the veterinarian and a firearm was allegedly shown.
Neither victim reported injuries.
The suspect vehicle was described as a gray Toyota Rav4 with Rhode Island license plates. The vehicle was located on Pleasant Street by Officer John Carr who conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle when it entered Route 24 South.
The suspects, later identified as MARCUS MANGUM and STEVEN MANGUM, were placed under arrest without incident.
A firearm was not located in the vehicle and was subsequently located at the intersection of Pleasant Street and the onramp to Route 24 South.
MARCUS MANGUM and STEVEN MANGUM were each expected to be arraigned today at Brockton District Court.
These are allegations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty.
