SUDBURY — Director of Student Services Stephanie Juriansz is pleased to announce that Sudbury Public Schools (SPS) will host a virtual version of its annual Kickoff to Kindergarten event this week.
On Tuesday, Jan. 26, at 6:30 p.m. parents will have the opportunity to attend the virtual program and learn more about kindergarten in Sudbury, including important information about the process for registering students for kindergarten for next school year. Click here to join the meeting.
At the event, district educators will discuss kindergarten registration, the English Language Learners program, special education services, health information, and safety protocols. Parents will also gain insight into a typical day for kindergarteners, including how student learning has been adapted to maintain safety amid COVID-19. At the end of the presentation, a question and answer panel discussion will be held.
Presenters will include Haynes Principal Jeffrey LaBroad, Preschool Coordinator & Special Education Team Chair Anh Le, School Nurse Carol Bradford, Sudbury Police Chief Scott Nix, METCO Director Sandra Walters, ELL Teacher RL Saffron and Parent Teacher Organization and SEPAC members. In addition, Noyes Kindergarten Teacher Emily LaMarre, Loring Kindergarten Teacher Jennifer Fullam, Nixon Kindergarten Teacher Rebecca Amaral and Haynes Kindergarten Teacher Lynne Emery will present on behalf of their individual schools as well.
“Enrolling students is exciting, but also can be daunting for parents, and we want to make the process as smooth and accessible as possible — especially considering the challenges families are already facing during the COVID-19 pandemic,” Juriansz said. “I encourage parents to take advantage of the opportunity to take part in this program, learn about the process and ask any questions they may have.”
The SPS kindergarten team is ready to welcome any child who will be five years old by Sept. 1. Eligible students with summer birthdays are encouraged to attend rather than delay a year, and families can reach out to the Early Childhood Office to discuss any concerns, if conflicted.
To register, parents must first complete and submit the online forms from Part 1 and then drop off the printed forms from Part 2 at the Student Services/Early Childhood Office, 40 Fairbank Road. Kindergarten registration begins on Feb. 1 and will remain open until April 1.
The following records must be presented at the time of registration:
- Child’s valid birth certificate (a copy in the mail and original confirmed during Welcome to Kindergarten Days)
- Child’s updated record of immunization including: DPT (Diphtheria, Pertussis, Tetanus), MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella), Hib, Polio, Hepatitis-B, Varicella, record of lead testing, TB screening, and vision screening/Stereopsis
- Copy of child’s most recent physical examination
- Three forms of proof of residency (i.e. driver’s license, pay stub, utility bill, property tax bill or lease)
- Health Record Screening Form
- Parent Information Form
- Preschool Inventory Form
Sudbury Public Schools’ kindergarten educators are experienced professionals with the means and knowledge necessary to support all developmental milestones. Support is available through the district’s Early Childhood Office for parents with specific questions regarding their children’s needs.
