NEWBURY — Chief Douglas Janvrin reports that the Newbury Fire Department extinguished a structure fire at a vacant home yesterday.
The Newbury Fire Department responded to 1 Plum Bush Downs for a report of a structure fire at 10:50 p.m. last night. Upon arrival firefighters saw heavy fire and smoke coming from the home and began working aggressively to knock down the one-alarm fire.
The home is currently vacant and no one was inside at the time of the fire. No one was injured.
First responders were able to successfully extinguish the flames, and had cleared the scene by 3:10 a.m. this morning. The building sustained significant fire and smoke damage.
Newbury Fire received mutual aid at the scene from the Newbury Police, Newburyport Fire Department, and Massachusetts Fire Services Special Operations Unit. Newbury Fire also received coverage at its Morgan Avenue station from the West Newbury and Rowley Fire Departments, and at its Byfield station from the Georgetown Fire Department.
“We have exemplary mutual aid partners and this is another example of the strong collaboration and teamwork we have locally and regionally,” Chief Janvrin said. “Thank you to all who assisted us in extinguishing this fire last night.”
The fire remains under investigation by the Newbury Fire and Police Departments, and State Police assigned to the Office of the State Fire Marshal.
