WAKEFIELD — Chief Steven A. Skory reports the Wakefield Police Department is actively responding to a barricaded subject at an apartment complex on Richardson Avenue.

At approximately 3 p.m. today, Wakefield Police were called to an apartment complex at 41 Richardson Ave. for report of a 31-year-old male suspect who had allegedly assaulted another and subsequently barricaded himself in his apartment and made threats toward law enforcement

Wakefield Police requested mutual aid support through the Northeast Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council (NEMLEC) and are actively working toward a peaceful resolution. Residents are asked to avoid the area of Richardson Avenue, which has been shut down, until further notice.

A media staging area has been set up in the parking lot of Galvin Middle School, 525 Main St.

No further information is available at this time, but Wakefield Police will provide an update as the situation evolves.
