TYNGSBOROUGH — Superintendent Jill Davis is pleased to share that the Greater Lowell Tech community came together this holiday season to continue its annual tradition of donating gifts to local children and families in need.

Each year, Greater Lowell Tech organizes a Giving Tree Project in partnership with Community Teamwork, Inc., a nonprofit organization that helps people and families gain economic independence. Through the Giving Tree, faculty and staff in previous years have had an opportunity to take a tag off of a “tree” set up in the school with the age, gender and interests of a child in need listed on each individual tag so that they can purchase gifts to donate and wrap for those children.

Last year, Greater Lowell Tech donated 100 gifts for local children through its Giving Tree Project. This year, however, due to myriad challenges posed by the ongoing pandemic the annual giving initiative was modified. Instead of gifts, Community Teamwork, Inc. accepted gift card donations to Walmart, Target or Amazon, and faculty and staff at Greater Lowell Tech had the opportunity to sign up to donate gift cards to be given to local children and families in need. Approximately 250 gift cards were donated.

“I am proud that we found a way to still give back to local children and families this year, and for the overwhelming show of support the Greater Lowell Tech community had for this year’s initiative,” Superintendent Davis said. “Thank you to all who took part– we hope these donations made the holidays a little brighter during this challenging year for our local families facing hardship.”

“We would like to say thank you so very much for the gift card donations we received and the generosity of those who donated,” CTI Program Manager Kelly Poindexter said. “During this extremely difficult time, it is especially rewarding for us to be able to provide families, who amidst everything else, are also experiencing homelessness, the freedom to purchase holiday gifts of their choice for their child or children. The gift card contributions offer parents and caregivers the opportunity to make a personalized selection making the holidays that much more special for everyone in the family.”
