NORWOOD — The Norwood Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred today at the Commons at Windsor Gardens apartment complex.
At 12:14 p.m. on Jan. 1, 911 dispatchers received multiple calls reporting shots fired in the area of an apartment building at 701 Landsdowne Way. Upon arrival, Officers Gregory Shore and Kevin McDonough found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds on a third floor balcony.
They used a fire escape to retrieve the man and, carrying him by his arms and legs, brought him to the ground where he was picked up by medics from a Norwood Fire Department ambulance and transported to a local hospital for treatment.
The 24-year-old male victim is expected to survive. He does not live where the shooting occurred. Officers stopped and briefly detained several people in the area, but they have all been cleared and released. No suspects have been arrested and the firearm involved has not been recovered.
The shooting is being investigated by detectives of the NPD Bureau of Criminal Investigation. Massachusetts State Police personnel from the state crime lab are assisting at the scene.
Preliminary indications are that this was not a random attack and it is believed that the general public is not at risk.
