LOWELL — Superintendent Raymond Kelly Richardson is pleased to announce that the Lowell Police Department completed its fifth annual holiday toy drive.
The department worked with Lowell School District social workers, led by Coordinator of Social Emotional Learning Lyndsey Killilea, to facilitate the collection of toys and ultimately collected a wide array of toys that will be donated to children ranging in age from preschool to high school.
The drive began on Nov. 24 and concluded Dec. 17. The department asked for new, unused and unwrapped toys or gift cards that could be given to students. Both local organizations and citizens played a large role in the success of this drive.
Donors that were instrumental in this drive included the LRTA and ATU Local 1578, MassHire Career Center of Lowell, the Lowell High School hockey team, Heather’s Hair Design, Hair by Yesi, Classic Plastic Model Club, and the Pick Yourself Up Nutrition Club.
“I’m glad that we were able to complete this drive and collect toys for so many children in need, especially after a year as challenging as this one has been for many families,” Superintendent Richardson said. “We really love doing this each and every year, and we’re extremely happy that we had another successful drive.”
