STONEHAM — Chief Matthew Grafton reports that the Stoneham Fire Department responded to a fire on the third floor of a single family home on Monday.
At approximately 12:40 p.m., Stoneham Fire received a report from a resident of a fire at their home at 178 Park St. Upon arrival, firefighters saw smoke coming from the third floor of the home. The two residents who were home at the time were able to exit the house safely before first responders arrived.
Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the flames and crews cleared the scene just before 2:10 p.m. The fire was contained to the third floor of the home and the roof was opened to help ventilate the smoke and heat.
The home is temporarily inhabitable due to the smoke and water damage.
No one was injured in the fire. The residents’ pet cat was rescued from inside the home.
The Winchester and Woburn Fire Departments provided mutual aid during the fire. Station coverage was provided by the Reading and Wakefield Fire Departments. The Stoneham Police Department and Action Ambulance assisted on scene as well.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Stoneham Fire Department.
