CHELMSFORD — Police Chief James M. Spinney reports that the Chelmsford Police and Fire Departments responded Saturday morning after a landscape worker performing snow removal duties became pinned by his equipment.
Rescuers responded to the alley behind 2 Alpine Lane, a multi-unit commercial building, at 8:49 a.m. after receiving a 911 call from a worker in the building stating that she heard a man yelling for help.
Police and firefighters found the 30-year-old Lowell man pinned between one of the arms of a skid-steer loader and one of its tires.
An extrication effort freed the man before he was taken to Lowell General Hospital by Trinity EMS with the assistance of Lowell General Hospital Advanced Life Support Paramedics. He was later transported by medical helicopter to Tufts Medical Center in Boston.
The man sustained serious, life-threatening injuries.
A preliminary investigation indicates that the man was operating the skid-steer by himself, and no other workers were at the site. The man is employed by Romero’s Landscaping out of Chelmsford.
OSHA has been notified and has responded to the scene. Police are investigating what appears to be an accident at this time.
