Sgt. Fountain to Be Rockport Police Department’s First Female Supervisor
ROCKPORT — Chief John Horvath and the Rockport Police Department are pleased to share that Officer Mary Fountain has been promoted to the rank of sergeant, effective next month.
The Rockport Board of Selectmen voted at its Tuesday, Dec. 15 meeting to appoint Officer Fountain to the rank of sergeant, effective officially on Jan. 10, 2021.
In her new role, Officer Fountain will serve as the Rockport Police Department’s first female supervisor.
“Officer Fountain is very deserving of this promotion and has done a wonderful job establishing strong, meaningful connections within our community,” Chief Horvath said. “She has long demonstrated a vested interest in public service and we have the utmost confidence she will thrive in this role.”
Officer Fountain, a resident of Peabody, joined the Rockport Police Department in April 2017. She began as a permanent intermittent police officer and was subsequently appointed to a full-time police officer position.
“It has been a pleasure serving the residents and business owners in the Town of Rockport as a patrol officer,” Officer Fountain said. “I look forward to continuing to work with the community from a leadership position within the department. As Sergeant, it is a goal of mine to enhance the recruitment effort to attract capable, diverse police candidates to our agency in addition to continuing on with the existing and new responsibilities that I hold.”
Officer Fountain is also the Rockport Police Department’s elder affairs officer, a background investigator, a certified sexual assault investigator, a certified bicycle officer and an officer-in-charge.
She is additionally a member of the Massachusetts Association of Women in Law Enforcement and the National Association of Women Law Enforcement Executives.
Prior to joining the Rockport Police Department, Officer Fountain worked in the Mayor’s Office and Inspectional Services for the City of Lynn for more than eight years.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice with a focus in police administration from Southern New Hampshire University, and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in criminal justice at Boston University. She is expected to graduate this May.
