NEWBURY — Chief Douglas Janvrin reports that the Newbury Fire Department responded to a gas leak today.
At 3:10 p.m., Newbury Fire responded to the area of 86 Newburyport Turnpike (Route 1) for a report of a gas leak. Upon arrival, crews learned that a high pressure gas line was ruptured by an excavator. Out of an abundance of caution, Newbury Police and Firefighters worked to evacuate properties within 1/2 mile of the rupture.
National Grid responded to the scene and was able to secure the leak, and all who were evacuated were allowed to return to their properties by 4:20 p.m. There was no fire, and no injuries, as a result of today’s incident.
