HUDSON — Chief Richard DiPersio is pleased to announce the Hudson Police Department has been awarded a total of $38,390 in federal grant funds allocated by the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security’s Office of Grants and Research (OGR).
The Hudson Police Department received a $38,390 grant from the Edward J. Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) program.
The funding will be used to purchase traffic safety and enforcement equipment, including two portable speed displays and a SpeedAlert Radar Message sign and trailer. The Department will also purchase TraffiCloud reporting and mapping software to collect and display data.
“We are honored to receive this grant funding from the state, which will allow us to purchase new equipment and software to support our efforts to protect and serve our community,” Chief DiPersio said. “This equipment will allow the department to adequately and successfully respond to the many traffic complaints we receive by deploying these visual alerts in areas of concern and collect detailed traffic data to include speed and volume of traffic.”
The grants were part of $7.8 million in funding that the Baker-Polito Administration allocated yesterday to provide access to equipment and strengthen training, crime prevention and enforcement initiatives across the Commonwealth.
The JAG program provided $4.6 million to fund needs such as protective equipment and communications infrastructure. The funds are allocated to local agencies by the OGR.
The Hudson Police Department is among more than 160 law enforcement agencies across the Commonwealth that were awarded grant funding.
