JAMES ROGERS, AGE 39, of MASHPEE, has been charged with Shoplifting.
On Monday at approximately 11 a.m., Stoneham Police responded to a report of a possible shoplifting incident at Famous Footwear, 99 Main St.
Upon arrival, officers spoke to a clerk who told them that the suspect, later identified as ROGERS, entered the store and walked up to the counter with several items. Following a verbal altercation with the clerk, ROGERS allegedly fled from the store in a gray Kia sedan, allegedly with several pairs of shoes and accessories.
The vehicle, allegedly driven by HENRY, fled south on Main Street towards Montvale Avenue. Two Stoneham Police officers working detail on Montvale Avenue attempted to stop the vehicle. The vehicle allegedly struck and dragged one of the officers a short distance down the street. The officer was not seriously injured.
The vehicle then fled onto I-93 South while being pursued by a third Stoneham officer. The officer pursued the vehicle but terminated the pursuit out of concern for the safety of all involved after losing sight of the vehicle. Stoneham Police notified area law enforcement agencies and provided a description of the vehicle.
A short time later, the Massachusetts State Police arrested both HENRY and ROGERS at the Paul Revere Park in Charlestown and transported them to the Stoneham Police Department for booking.
ROGERS was arraigned today at Woburn District Court. ROGERSwas released on personal recognizance and ordered to stay away from Famous Footwear in Stoneham by Judge David Frank. ROGERS will appear in court again on Dec. 28.
HENRY is being held on $500 bail pending arraignment at Woburn District Court on Tuesday, Nov. 10.
These are allegations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty.
