WEYMOUTH  — Superintendent Jennifer Curtis-Whipple and Abigail Adams Middle School Principal Matthew Meehan are pleased to share that faculty and staff came together to create a welcome video for Abigail Adams students returning to school.

In an effort to provide students with a glimpse into how the school will look and operate, Abigail Adams Middle School faculty and staff created a video to welcome students back to the school building. The video, created and produced by the Abigail Adams Middle School Film Club Director and Health Teacher John Mullaney, was shared with students and their families on Wednesday prior to their return to school.

“We have a history of filming fun lip sync videos through the after-school club,” said Mullaney. “The idea was hatched a couple of years ago to rewrite Flo Rida’s “Welcome to My House” to say Welcome to Adams, but we never got around to it. Our former music teacher, Lauren Saracino, was approached to rewrite the song a month ago to have a pandemic return to school theme.”

Vice Principal Andrew Materna recorded the song and did most of the lip syncing.

“We are pleased to welcome our students back into our school building,” Principal Meehan said. “As the video shows, our faculty and staff have eagerly awaited the return of students to the classroom. We hope that this video got our students excited for their return to in-person learning.”

On Wednesday, Nov. 4, grades six and seven cohorts returned to school under a hybrid learning model.

The district’s in-person learning under the hybrid learning model has a primary focus on the overall health and well-being of the students. A structured routine has been created so they feel safe physically, socially and emotionally. Emphasis will be placed on building and rebuilding school routines while promoting healthy socialization.

Inside the school building, students are required to maintain 6 feet of distance from one another and are required to wear face coverings at all times. To learn more about Abigail Adams Middle School’s reopening plan, click here.

To ensure everyone’s health and safety within the school, the district is conducting rigorous cleaning of all school buildings as well as providing other preventative measures for students and staff, such as hand washing stations and hand sanitizer, and frequently cleaning high-touch surfaces.
