NEW LONDON, N.H. — Superintendent Winfried Feneberg is pleased to share that Kearsarge Regional Elementary School at New London has created a video showcasing a day in the life of a kindergarten student.

The video aims to give parents, guardians and community members greater insight into what school is like this year for students amid COVID-19, and was recently shared on the KRES at New London website.
“This video does a great job of allowing parents and guardians to see what school is like for their students at a time when so much has changed,” Superintendent Feneberg said. “We simply cannot accommodate visitors, parent volunteers, or in-person open house events amid COVID-19, and so this video is one way of welcoming parents, guardians and other stakeholders into the classroom, digitally.”
Students throughout the district this year have been separated into two groups where they participate in live, remote classes either at school or at home. As a result, all students are taking part, whether in a school facility or at home, in synchronous learning with their teachers and peers.
The video features Sarah Katsanos’s class. Katsanos has 13 students in her class, 11 of whom attend school in-person and two are fully remote learners. Families were contacted this summer and the district accomodated preferences regarding in-person and remote learning. The two remote learning students in the class are able to participate through video chat over Google Meet and conduct their work remotely.
“My kinders are doing an amazing job keeping safe and loving to learn,” Katsanos said. “They amaze me every day with the enthusiasm they bring to our classroom.”
In the video, students practice tracing and sounding out letters.
While not required, kindergarten students are encouraged to wear masks while learning in-person this school year and can take their masks off while sitting at their desk. Desks in kindergarten classrooms are also spaced six feet apart.
