IPSWICH — Police Chief Paul A. Nikas reports that the Ipswich Police Department filed charges against an individual Monday evening who abandoned his vehicle and fled on foot following a single car motor vehicle crash.

CRAIG GEORGE MANNETTA, AGE 32, OF PEABODY was charged with:

  • Operating after license revoked
  • Leaving the scene of a crash with property damage
  • Operating to Endanger
  • Marked Lanes Violation

At approximately 8:56 p.m. on Monday, November 2, Ipswich Police were dispatched to Topsfield Road near Mary’s Way for a reported single car motor vehicle crash. Upon arrival at the scene, officers observed a Honda sedan with heavy front end, side panel, and windshield damage, a deployed airbag, and no driver. Officers determined that the vehicle had crashed into a tree on the eastbound side of Topsfield Road, crossed the center line and hit another tree.

The vehicle was registered in Peabody and Ipswich officers worked with the Peabody Police Department to make contact with the vehicle owner, who was able to identify the driver as CRAIG GEORGE MANNETTA.

Following a two hour search of the area by K-9 Officer Justin Ellenton of the Danvers Police Department and Ipswich Officer Matt Bodwell, the driver was located in a resident’s yard and was confirmed to be MANNETTA. He was transported to Anna Jacques Hospital in Newburyport for treatment due to the motor vehicle crash.

“Locating this individual was a cooperative task with several police departments in the area and I commend the great teamwork that led to tracking him down,” said Chief Nikas. “Thankfully the motor vehicle crash didn’t result in a more serious multi-vehicle accident.”

These are allegations. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty.
