MAYNARD — The Maynard Economic Development Committee is looking for new members that are interested in continuing to shape and sustain economic development efforts in Maynard.
The committee, currently meeting virtually twice monthly on Thursday mornings, is looking to add two committed members.
Committee Chair Jack MacKeen notes that the stage has been set for continued economic development shaped by the Town’s recently adopted Master Plan. The Plan emphasizes economic development and supporting elements including housing, transportation, public infrastructure, land use and cultural and historic resources.
“Maynard’s entrepreneurial spirit is strong and currently being enhanced by emphasizing its growing identity as a cultural destination. This supports the goals of the Master Plan and provides a basis to both improve the quality of life for our residents and draw consumers to our town,” said MacKeen.
Some of the recent initiatives by the Economic Development Committee include: installation of informational kiosks throughout Town, creation of business guides and developing minimum maintenance standards for commercial properties.
MacKeen went on to point out that he hopes to get more representation on the committee from the local business community: “Increasing our membership with local entrepreneurs will help us shape our efforts to continue growing a robust -and sustainable- local economy.”
Assistant Town Administrator Megan Zammuto, explains that the designation of Downtown Maynard a Cultural District by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, and the adoption of the 2020 Master Plan, has set the stage for new growth in Maynard’s economy.
“The importance of a consistent economic vision for Maynard at this time is crucial,” said Zammuto. “Serving on the Economic Development Committee offers an opportunity to participate and make a difference.”
