MIDDLEBOROUGH — Chief Lance Benjamino is pleased to announce that the Middleborough Fire Department was the recipient of a donation recently to help them when interacting with children in town.
September was Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month. To help raise awareness, fund pediatric cancer research, and provide local children with a treat when in need, Jill Fernandes and her family collected donations to support research as well as give back to local children through the Middleborough Fire Department. Funds were raised through a GoFundMe page, a Facebook event page and through the Middleborough Town and Fire Department Facebook pages.
The money raised was used to purchase Cuddle Bear book sets and stuffed Cuddle Bears that were given to the Middleborough Fire Department, so firefighters can then give them to children during routine or crisis situations.
A portion of proceeds was also given directly to the Scott Carter Foundation to help fund pediatric cancer research.
“I would like to thank Jill and her family for their work to provide much needed fudning toward pediatric cancer research, and to provide us with Cuddle Bears and book sets to give to children in need,” Chief Benjamino said.
