WHITMAN — Chief Timothy Grenno and the Whitman Fire Department are pleased to announce that Firefighters Brian Feeney and Luke Laubacher graduated from the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy last week.
On Friday, Oct. 9, Firefighters Feeney and Laubacher graduated from Class #BW04 of the Massachusetts Firefighter Academy, which trained at the Bridgewater campus.
The 10-week program teaches the essentials of fire and non-fire conditions, life safety, search and rescue, ladder operations, water supply, pump operation and fire attack.
Firefighters Feeney and Laubacher are now certified at the level of Firefighter I and II and in hazardous material operation.
Firefighter Laubacher will report to duty today, Oct. 12, for two weeks of orientation. Firefighter Feeney will begin his shift this week having previously served his orientation time before the academy.
“The Massachusetts Firefighting Academy offers a rigorous 10-week program, and we are excited to welcome Brian and Luke to our ranks,” Chief Grenno said. “We are confident they will serve the department and the residents of Whitman well.”
The other 14 graduates in the class represented the fire departments of Avon, Belmont, Bourne, Dennis, Marshfield, Sharon, Somerset, Wrentham and Yarmouth.
The Massachusetts Firefighting Academy:
At the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy, firefighter recruits learn a wide range of skills in an intensive 10-week program. Certified and more experienced firefighters lead classroom instruction, physical fitness training, firefighter skills training and firefighting practice. Students are given training in public fire education, hazardous material incident mitigation, flammable liquids, stress management, confined space rescue techniques and rappelling. Upon successful completion of the Recruit Program, all students have met national standards of National Fire Protection Association 1001.
